(Central News Agency, Nantou County, July 8) The Nantou County Yingbei Junior High School Dragon Dance Team is set to perform in Poland. The County Government stated today during a flag presentation ceremony that the students are dancing from their local community onto the international stage, not only showcasing their superb skills but also pursuing their dreams and their sense of belonging to their hometown, allowing the world to witness the warmth and strength of Taiwanese culture.
The Yingbei Junior High School Dragon Dance Team performed in the Netherlands last year and this year has been invited to participate in two international folk art festivals in Poland, with a tour performance in four Polish cities. The Nantou County Government held a "Dragon Eye Dotting and Flag Presentation Ceremony" today. Vice Magistrate Wang Ruei-de attended to dot the eyes of the "auspicious dragon" that is about to embark on its European journey, symbolizing "the auspicious dragon's departure and the far-reaching spread of culture," and wishing Taiwanese culture great success in Europe.
Wang Ruei-de stated that the Yingbei Junior High School Dragon Dance Team upholds the firm belief of "giving ordinary children the opportunity to stand on the world stage." Through dragon dance culture and rigorous training, they cultivate children's self-confidence, sense of responsibility, and teamwork spirit. Instructor Wu Cheng-han has dedicated over ten thousand hours over the years to accompanying and wholeheartedly teaching the students, enabling the dragon dance team to display superb skills and continuously receive invitations to participate in domestic and international events.
The Nantou County Government's Department of Education expressed gratitude to the Wu Kong Shu Theater Troupe for upholding the concept of cultural inheritance and creating a brand new "Hakka Dragon" for the school free of charge. This dragon, with its exquisite craftsmanship and vibrant colors, showcases the beauty of traditional Taiwanese art and will be a highlight of the Polish tour. Yingbei Junior High School has also invited the Wu Kong Shu Theater Troupe and the Nantou Dance Troupe to travel to Poland together, creating a cross-disciplinary fusion of dragon dance, traditional folk arts, and modern dance to present the diverse cultural charm of Taiwan to international audiences.
