(CNA, Penghu County, July 8) An Indonesian fisherman aboard the Penghu-registered fishing vessel "He Li Xian 168" was bitten on the ankle by a grouper while working yesterday, causing profuse bleeding. He urgently sought help at sea, and the Penghu Coast Guard team responded to rescue and assist with medical transport.

The 13th Patrol District of the Coast Guard Administration's Kinmen-Matsu-Penghu Branch received a report from fishermen yesterday afternoon around 2 p.m. It stated that while the "He Li Xian 168" was operating 68 nautical miles west of Qimei, an Indonesian fisherman on board was bitten on the ankle by a grouper, resulting in severe bleeding and a request for medical evacuation.

Upon receiving the report, the patrol district instructed the "He Li Xian 168" to haul its nets and sail towards Magong. Simultaneously, a patrol boat from the Penghu Coast Guard team, which was on duty at sea, was dispatched for rescue. The Magong Inspection Office of the 7th Coastal Patrol Brigade and the Fire Department were also notified to coordinate the response.

The Penghu Coast Guard patrol boat rendezvoused with the "He Li Xian 168" at 36.5 nautical miles west of Huyu, Wang'an, yesterday afternoon around 5 p.m. After initial bandaging of the injured Indonesian fisherman, he was transferred to the patrol boat accompanied by another fisherman and immediately set sail back to Magong Port. Upon arrival at Magong last night at 8 p.m., the injured individual was handed over to a Fire Department ambulance and transported to the National Health Insurance Administration Penghu Hospital for medical treatment.

The Kinmen-Matsu-Penghu Branch stated that Penghu is surrounded by the sea. If fishermen encounter any situations or emergencies while operating at sea, they can call the Coast Guard Administration's toll-free reporting number "118" or report through the Penghu District Fishermen's Association's fisheries radio station. The Coast Guard will immediately launch a rescue operation. (Editor: Chang Ya-ching) 1150708
