Taipei, July 8 (CNA) The detection of carcinogens exceeding standards in cooking oil from Chung Lien Oil has raised public concern. The Ministry of Education's latest investigation reveals that 623 schools and 258 kindergartens are suspected of having used the problematic cooking oil. They have all been instructed to immediately cease its use and take preventive measures to remove it from shelves, ensuring student safety.

The exceeding of carcinogen benzo(a)pyrene standards in Chung Lien Oil has sparked food safety concerns. According to the latest statistics released by the Ministry of Education late tonight, the scope of suspected use of affected products currently spans 20 counties and cities, involving 623 schools and 258 kindergartens.

The Ministry of Education has immediately provided the comparison results to the education bureaus of each county and city. Further confirmation will be carried out school by school to assist schools and group meal providers in inventorying cooking oil and related products.

The Ministry of Education explained that the above investigation data is based on the information of 360 newly affected businesses and 232 products announced by the Food and Drug Administration of the Ministry of Health and Welfare on the 7th. This information was used to compare with the data logged by schools nationwide through the school food ingredient registration platform.

The Ministry of Education emphasized that it will continue to supervise local governments and schools to conduct "rolling" inventory based on the latest announcements from the FDA, implementing the preventive management principle of "suspected items, remove first." This collaborative effort aims to safeguard food safety on campus and provide peace of mind to parents. (Editor: Chen Ching-fang) 1150708
