Responding to Chung Lien Contaminated Oil, Tainan Recalls 1062 Kilograms

(Central News Agency, reporter Chang Jung-hsiang, Tainan, July 8) In response to the incident of carcinogenic benzo(a)pyrene exceeding the standard in Chung Lien oil products, the Tainan City Government Department of Health has continued its inspections. As of yesterday, a cumulative total of 1062 kilograms of affected oil products have been removed from shelves and recalled. Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che stated, "We will announce wherever we find it."

The Tainan City Department of Health stated today that the Food and Drug Administration has announced a total of 360 businesses nationwide affected by Chung Lien oil products, with 22 in Tainan City. The Department of Health continues to conduct comprehensive inspections of catering businesses, food sales businesses, long-term care facilities, and social welfare institutions within its jurisdiction that provide meals, urging them to immediately stop using and complete replacements.

The Department of Health stated that Hsin Nung Technology Co., Ltd. purchased 24,710 kilograms of affected oil products from Fu Mao Co., Ltd. in April. All of this was used to produce pig feed between April and May. The relevant products have been shipped and used by farmers. San Ou Food Co., Ltd. purchased 1656 kilograms of affected soybean salad oil from Fu Shou Co., Ltd. in May, which was entirely used to produce ready-to-eat meals and has been sold.

Lian Rui Food Technology Co., Ltd. purchased 1656 kilograms of affected oil products from Fu Shou Co., Ltd. in April, which were used to produce spicy mayonnaise, Sichuan-style chili oil cold noodle sauce, red clam salad, and fruit salad. Although the content of the affected oil in the products did not reach 20%, the company was still required to voluntarily recall the relevant products and proactively disclose usage information.

Huang Wei-che stated that the city government "will announce wherever we find it," and will continue to investigate the flow and usage of the contaminated oil products. The Department of Health requires businesses to immediately stop using the implicated oil products and complete the recall and replacement of products.
