(Central News Agency, Taipei, July 8) China's Taiwan Affairs Office (TAO) today criticized American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) Director Raymond Greene. An AIT spokesperson stated that the U.S. commitment to Taiwan is robust and its policy remains unchanged, expressing a desire to see the status quo maintained. The U.S. has long held the position that Beijing and Taiwan's democratically elected leaders should engage in dialogue without preconditions.

Regarding Greene's recent remarks at a drone forum in Taichung, suggesting Taiwan should build a drone "honeycomb" for effective deterrence, TAO spokesperson Chen Binhua today launched a series of negative criticisms against Greene, demanding that the U.S. "relevant institutions and personnel cease spreading 'erroneous remarks.'"

In response to Central News Agency's inquiry this afternoon, an AIT spokesperson replied that the U.S.'s robust commitment to Taiwan continues and has been maintained for over 40 years. U.S. policy toward Taiwan has not changed and has always been guided by the Taiwan Relations Act, the three joint communiqués, and the Six Assurances.

The AIT spokesperson pointed out that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated on June 2nd at the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, "Most importantly, the United States wants to see the status quo maintained, and that is our policy; that is something we have said for a long time, and we will continue to reiterate...Our policy toward Taiwan has not changed."

The AIT spokesperson emphasized that the U.S.'s long-standing position is for Beijing and Taiwan's democratically elected leaders to engage in dialogue without preconditions. (Editor: Lin Ke-lun) 1150708
