(CNA) - To reduce personnel burdens and allow military personnel to focus on combat training duties, Minister of National Defense Chiu Kuo-cheng announced today that guard post duties at 9 military schools across Taiwan will be outsourced in a two-phase trial. The first phase will begin on September 1st at 5 locations, including the National Defense University, and the second phase will be implemented at 4 locations, including the Army Academy, starting January next year.

Chiu Kuo-cheng was invited to the Legislative Yuan's Foreign and National Defense Committee this morning to deliver a special report on "Human Resource Policies and Responses of the Armed Forces Under the Impact of Declining Birthrates" and to answer questions.

In response to a question from Democratic Progressive Party legislator Shen Po-yang, Chiu Kuo-cheng stated that to reduce personnel burdens, a two-phase plan is being developed to trial the outsourcing of guard post duties at 9 military schools across Taiwan to security and guard companies, allowing military personnel to return to their original units and focus on combat training duties.

Chiu Kuo-cheng explained that the first phase, starting September 1st, will be trialed at 5 locations: 3 campuses of the National Defense University, the Army Academy, and the Naval Academy. The second phase, starting January 1st next year, will be trialed at 4 locations: the Army Academy of Science and Technology, 2 campuses of the Air Force Institute of Technology, and the Chung Cheng Military Academy.
