(CNA reporter Wang Chaoyu Keelung July 8) A water pipe burst on Chenggong 1st Road in Keelung City around noon today, with a large amount of tap water gushing out like a fountain. Taiwan Water Company stated that an 80 mm water pipe was accidentally damaged during repaving, causing a water outage for 1,249 households in Ren'ai District. Repairs were completed at 1:41 PM.
Around noon, a water pipe burst at the entrance of Guanghua National Housing Complex on Lane 133, Chenggong 1st Road, Keelung City. Tap water under high pressure sprayed violently towards the sky like a fountain, exceeding one story in height, with water splashing onto the surrounding roads.
Wei Jinlong, deputy director of the First Regional Management Office of Taiwan Water Corporation, said that after receiving a report from the village chief at 12:32 PM, personnel were immediately dispatched to the scene to direct traffic and close water gates. Repair equipment and personnel arrived at the scene at 12:50 PM.
Wei Jinlong said that an investigation revealed that the 80 mm diameter water pipe was accidentally damaged by the First Regional Management Office during subsequent repaving work. Approximately 1,249 households in Ren'ai District were expected to experience a water outage. After personnel carried out repairs, the damaged pipe was fixed at 1:41 PM.
