"Little Emerald" Welcomes Visitors: National Palace Museum's Northern Branch Surpasses 1 Million Visitors in Mid-2026

(CNA Reporter Wang Bao-er, Taipei, July 8) The National Palace Museum's Northern Branch has surpassed one million visitors since mid-2026 as of today. The museum's mascot, "Little Emerald" (Xiao Cui), welcomed the 11 visitors who arrived just before and after the one-millionth mark. They came from Malaysia, New Zealand, the United States, and other places, happily accepting souvenirs and posing for photos.

National Palace Museum Vice President Yu Pei-chin, along with "Little Emerald," waited at the Northern Branch today to witness the arrival of the 11 visitors, from the 999,995th to the 1,000,005th visitor of the year. Among them, the one-millionth visitor was Ms. Chu, a Taiwanese national residing in the United States. She told the museum that she makes it a point to visit the National Palace Museum every time she returns to Taiwan, and that the museum has become an essential part of her homecoming itinerary.

Several exhibitions are currently on display at the National Palace Museum. In a press release today, the museum stated that the special exhibition "The Dragon Sutra: Imperial Power, Faith, and Art in a Prosperous Era" is the first time the "Dragon Sutra" and its complete set of binding accessories are being presented together at the Northern Branch. Additionally, the exhibition "Mythical Beasts Reemerge: Fantastic Creatures in Cultural Relics" showcases mythical beasts with various special abilities.

With the FIFA World Cup currently underway, the National Palace Museum announced that on July 10, it will launch the special exhibition "Skill and Sport - Art and Physical Activities in Paintings and Calligraphy." Through images and writings in paintings and calligraphy, the exhibition will present ancient people's rich sporting activities, including "Cuju," the origin of football certified by FIFA, as well as archery, ice skating, pitch-pot, and polo.
