(Central News Agency, reporter Huang Yu-ching, Pingtung County, July 8) A fatal traffic accident occurred in Zhutian Township, Pingtung County this morning around 7 a.m. A motorcycle rider, surnamed Lin, was carrying a friend to work when their vehicle collided with a car at an intersection without traffic signals. The car overturned into a large ditch, and the motorcycle was thrown into a ditch on the other side. Both the rider and the passenger died.

The Chaozhou Precinct of the Pingtung County Police Bureau issued a statement today stating that a traffic accident occurred at the intersection of Yongxing Road and Lianzhou Road in Zhutian Township, Pingtung County, around 7 a.m. Mr. Weng, a 64-year-old man, was driving a sedan southbound on Lianzhou Road. Mr. Lin, a 21-year-old man, was riding a motorcycle with his friend, Mr. Lin, a 26-year-old man, heading west on Yongxing Road to work. The two vehicles collided at the unsignalized intersection. The car driver, Mr. Weng, sustained minor injuries, while the motorcycle rider and passenger were rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment but were both pronounced dead.

The Chaozhou Precinct stated that the sedan driver showed no signs of drunk or drugged driving, and the detailed cause of the accident is still under investigation. The police also urged the public to pay attention to the road ahead when driving and to slow down when approaching intersections without traffic signals to ensure their own safety and that of other road users.

Images provided by the police show that after the collision, Mr. Weng's car fell into a large drainage ditch, landing upside down, while the motorcycle was thrown into a ditch on the other side of the road.

The Pingtung County Fire Bureau stated that upon receiving the report, they dispatched personnel and vehicles from the Zhutian, Chaozhou, and Wanluan branches, including 5 fire and ambulance vehicles, 9 firefighters and police officers, and 1 conscript. The team was led by Squad Leader Lin Peng-chih of the Chaozhou branch. The motorcycle rider and passenger were in OHCA (Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest) and were transported to Chaozhou Antai Hospital by the Chaozhou branch ambulance and Guoren Hospital by the Zhutian branch ambulance after initial treatment on the roadside.
