Pingtung Chentian Motorcycle Ejected into Drainage Ditch After Crash, Rider and Passenger Both Die

(CNA, Pingtung County, July 8) A fatal traffic accident occurred in Chentian Township, Pingtung County this morning. A car and a motorcycle fell into a large drainage ditch. The motorcycle rider and the passenger on the back were ejected and died. The car driver sustained minor injuries and was trapped inside the vehicle, receiving assistance from firefighters to be extricated. The cause of the accident is still under investigation by the police.

The Pingtung County Fire Bureau issued a statement saying that at 7:08 AM today, they received a report of a traffic accident requiring rescue at the intersection of Yong'an Road and Yongxing Road in Chentian Township. They dispatched personnel and vehicles from the Chentian, Chaozhou, and Wanluan branches, totaling 5 vehicles, 9 firefighters, and 1 male conscript, led by Chaozhou Branch Squad Leader Lin Peng-chih.

The Fire Bureau stated that rescue personnel and vehicles arrived at the scene at 7:23 AM and reported a total of 3 injured individuals. Two of them were ejected into the large drainage ditch. Both were male, approximately 30 years old, and suffered from OHCA (Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest). After being pulled to the road surface and receiving initial treatment, they were transported by the Chaozhou Branch ambulance to Chaozhou Antai Hospital and by the Chentian Branch ambulance to Guoren Hospital for emergency treatment, respectively.

The Fire Bureau indicated that the other injured person was a male, approximately 64 years old, who was trapped inside the car. He was conscious and only sustained abrasions on his limbs. After being assisted out of the vehicle, he refused medical transport.

The police stated that the car driver sustained minor injuries, while the motorcycle rider and passenger died. The cause of the accident is still under investigation. (Editor: Chang Ya-ching) 1150708
