(New York, April 8, CNA foreign news) U.S. President Trump said that the ceasefire agreement with Iran "is over," and Wall Street stocks fell after the market opened today. The resurgence of conflict in the Middle East also pushed oil prices to soar.

According to AFP, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 1.0% shortly after the opening to 52412.15 points; the S&P 500 index fell 0.5% to 7465.38 points; and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index fell 0.3% to 25731.69 points.

Sam Stovall, an analyst at investment research firm CFRA Research, said that Trump's remarks on the war "triggered a sell-off."

Markets are also awaiting whether inflation data to be released by the U.S. next week will exceed expectations, and investors remain most concerned about the implications of soaring oil prices.

Both international benchmark Brent crude and U.S. benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude rose at least 5%.

When asked at the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit today whether the U.S.-Iran ceasefire was still effective, Trump replied, "Personally, it's over."

He said, "I will let our great negotiators continue to talk if they want to, but I don't think there is hope." (Compiled by He Hongru) 1150708
