(Central News Agency, Abidjan, Ivory Coast, July 7, Comprehensive Foreign News) Security sources told Agence France-Presse yesterday that at least 22 soldiers and militiamen were killed in northern Burkina Faso last weekend in suspected extremist attacks.
Agence France-Presse reported that two sources said that on the morning of the 4th, a military base in Di, near the city of Dedougou, was attacked, killing about 14 soldiers and 7 militiamen; in addition, several people were killed in Solhan. One of the sources described "enormous personnel and material losses" but did not elaborate.
Burkina Faso has been ruled by a military government since September 2022, but has been subjected to deadly offensives by jihadists linked to Al-Qaeda and the Islamic State for more than a decade. The military has recruited civilians to assist in combat in response to the jihadists, but has paid a heavy price for it.
A police source revealed that a third attack occurred on the 5th, targeting a military outpost in Seguenega, near Kaya in the central-northern region. (Intern Editor: Cai Yarong / Editor: Xu Chezhe) 1150708
