Hsinchu City Government announced that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released the distribution channels of problematic Chung Lien cooking oil. The Hsinchu City Department of Health launched inspections and, as of today, has inspected a total of 10 businesses, with nearly 30,000 kg recalled. The department will continue to track the distribution and recovery status.
Chung Lien's "Soybean Salad Oil" exceeded the permissible limit for the carcinogen benzopyrene. A total of 1300 metric tons were distributed to companies including Taishan, Fwusow, and Fwumao, affecting 18 products across 30 batches. The number of affected businesses is 360. The Ministry of Health and Welfare's Food and Drug Administration announced yesterday that it has accounted for 331 businesses and is tracking 29 others.
The Hsinchu City Government issued a press release stating that the FDA previously announced 6 downstream businesses in Hsinchu City and yesterday announced an additional 4. The Hsinchu City Department of Health, along with the Hsinchu City Investigation Bureau, launched a second wave of inspections, checking each business's procurement, inventory, usage, and sales status, and demanding immediate cessation of use and recall.
The Hsinchu City Government stated that as of today, a cumulative total of 29,688.2 kg of problematic and preventatively recalled oil has been collected. Subsequently, the department will continue to track the distribution and recovery of the problematic products, conduct ongoing inspections and distribution tracking, urge businesses to complete recovery operations, and ensure that problematic products are completely removed from the market.
The Hsinchu City Government stated that through the activation of an inter-departmental investigation mechanism, enhanced checks were conducted in areas such as schools, supermarkets, hotels, markets, and night markets. As of today, 83 businesses have been inspected, with 42 involved in problematic oil products, all of which have ceased use and completed preventative recalls.
In the press release, the Hsinchu City Department of Health stated that for all problematic products announced by the central government, regardless of the proportion of use, preventative recall is mandatory. If businesses continue to display, sell, or supply these products, they will be penalized in accordance with the "Food Safety and Sanitation Act." (Editor: Huang Ming-hsi) 1150708
