(CNA Taipei, July 8) Major League Baseball (MLB) Detroit Tigers' Taiwanese player Lee Hao-yu came up to bat as a pinch hitter today, striking out in his one at-bat and committing one fielding error. However, the Tigers still defeated the Athletics 6-2, extending their winning streak to three games and winning six of their last seven.
Lee Hao-yu was not in the starting lineup today. However, in the bottom of the sixth inning, after the team had taken a 6-1 lead, he entered the game to pinch hit. With two outs and a runner on first, Lee Hao-yu battled for 8 pitches but was struck out by left-handed pitcher Jacob Lopez. He had only one plate appearance in the game, and his batting average after the game was .250.
In the top of the seventh inning, Lee Hao-yu took over at second base. With two outs and a runner on first, he committed an error on a ground ball hit by Nick Kurtz, allowing the Athletics' offense to continue. The next batter, Shea Langeliers, then hit a single, leading to the Tigers giving up one run. However, further damage was prevented.
Tigers' starting pitcher Tarik Skubal struck out 9 batters in 5 innings, allowing only 1 run to earn the win. The Tigers' offense collected 8 hits, including a 2-run home run by Colt Keith in the bottom of the first inning. They also scored 4 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
