Salad Oil Food Safety: Green Taipei and New Taipei Mayoral Candidates Call for Central-Local Cooperation

(Central News Agency, Taipei, July 8) Zhonglian Oil soybean salad oil exceeded carcinogen limits, and Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an questioned Premier Cho Jung-tai's failure to live up to his responsibilities. DPP Taipei and New Taipei mayoral candidates Shen Po-yang and Su Chiao-hui stated today that the central and local governments should each fulfill their roles and cooperate to protect the health of the people.

The Next Generation Human-Centered Transportation Promotion Association held a cross-county and city joint signing press conference titled "Transportation Reform Starts from the Beginning" this morning. Participants included DPP Taipei mayoral candidate Shen Po-yang, fellow party member and New Taipei mayoral candidate Su Chiao-hui, Taoyuan mayoral candidate Huang Shih-chieh, and Yilan mayoral candidate Lin Kuo-chang.

After the conference, when discussing Chiang Wan-an's questioning of Cho Jung-tai regarding the problematic oil incident, and KMT New Taipei mayoral candidate Li Ssu-chuan's questioning of Su Chiao-hui for avoiding the topic, Shen Po-yang said that the entire matter requires collaboration between the central and local governments, and neither can be dispensed with. After the central government provides the identification numbers, local governments conduct checks. We can see that Kaohsiung City has already reached the third and fourth layers of investigation, and after reporting back, the central government will consolidate the relevant information.

He said that he hopes the central and local governments will work together to protect the people's food safety issues. Additionally, with Typhoon Bavi possibly approaching, central and local cooperation is also needed to protect the people's safety.

Su Chiao-hui stated that this matter returns to the Food Safety Act, with each party fulfilling its responsibilities. From flow investigation, source investigation, to product recall, all should be done thoroughly. Both the central and local governments should act together to jointly protect the health of the people.
