Food Safety Scandal Over Cooking Oil Spreads; Xiangbin Group States "Jianwei" Sesame Oil Preemptively Suspended and Sealed

(CNA, Taipei, July 8) The scandal of carcinogenic benzo(a)pyrene exceeding standards in cooking oil continues to expand. Regarding the "Jianwei" sesame oil, supplied by Gao Sheng Tai Company and announced by the Kaohsiung City Government as not meeting food safety regulations for certain batches, Xiangbin Group emphasized that they have preemptively and voluntarily suspended the use and sealed the sesame oil supplied by this manufacturer. The salad oil items used by the group have been confirmed to be safe after investigation.

The storm of benzo(a)pyrene (BaP) exceeding standards in Zhonglian soybean salad oil continues to spread. Regarding the "Jianwei" sesame oil, supplied by Gao Sheng Tai Company and announced by the Kaohsiung City Government as not meeting food safety regulations for certain batches, Xiangbin Group issued a statement.

Xiangbin Group's statement pointed out:

First, preemptive voluntary sealing and suspension of use at all stores. Xiangbin Group learned of the upstream manufacturer's controversial incident from news media last week. At that time, the problematic items announced by the competent authority were limited to "salad oil." Before the investigation extended to compound oils such as sesame oil, they proactively took voluntary preemptive measures. The sesame oil supplied by this manufacturer has now been completely suspended, removed from shelves, and sealed.

Second, Xiangbin Group pointed out that salad oil items have been confirmed to be safe. Regarding the salad oil items announced by the competent authority recently, Xiangbin Group has completed a comprehensive investigation. Based on the information released by the competent authority and supplier data, they have cross-referenced one by one and confirmed that the Dacheng soybean salad oil used in all stores nationwide is not related to the problematic items announced this time.

Xiangbin Group stated that food safety has always been Xiangbin Group's uncompromising highest principle. They deeply regret the public anxiety caused by the sesame oil items from an upstream raw material supplier. In addition to cooperating with the subsequent investigation by the competent authority, they have launched a supply chain upgrade project to comprehensively deepen raw material management and traceability verification mechanisms, and to defend food safety with high standards.
