(Central News Agency, Taipei, July 8) When Yaita Akio, CEO of the Indo-Pacific Strategy Think Tank, was attacked by a Hong Kong national surnamed Liao in Taichung, China's Taiwan Affairs Office (TAO) called it an "act of righteous indignation." The Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) criticized that the mainland is not condemning violent crime but instead glorifying "violence" as "righteous indignation."

The Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) stated on the afternoon of July 8 that in recent years, whenever major social cases attracting attention occur in Taiwan, China's Taiwan Affairs Office (TAO) has always been eager to support and plead for the parties involved or the suspects, while labeling them as political persecution and political suppression.

The MAC criticized that this time it has escalated, not only failing to condemn violent crime but instead glorifying "violence" as "righteous indignation." "The CCP's statement today is either blatant lying or treating all Taiwanese as fools."

Yaita Akio was attacked in Taichung on July 6. The MAC defined the incident as the first cross-border suppression case against Taiwan after the "Law on Safeguarding National Unity and Promoting National Reunification" of the People's Republic of China came into effect on July 1.

Chen Binhua, spokesperson for China's Taiwan Affairs Office (TAO), responded to the attack on Yaita Akio at a regular press conference on the morning of July 8.

Chen Binhua stated that the Hong Kong man's actions out of righteous indignation were entirely an "isolated incident of ordinary public security that occurred by chance." He accused the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) of using the incident for "political manipulation, forcibly linking and distorting and smearing the Law on Safeguarding National Unity and Promoting National Reunification, with the aim of provoking cross-strait confrontation and misleading and intimidating the Taiwanese people."

Chen Binhua mentioned at the conference, "The legitimate rights and interests of this Hong Kong man must not be infringed, and his personal and property safety must be protected from harm." (Editor: Zhu Jianling) 1150708
