80 Lian Hwa Products Affected by Zhonglian Oil; Keelung City Says Not Currently on Shelves

(CNA, Keelung, July 8) The Keelung Department of Health stated today that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the list of affected products from the problematic oil yesterday evening. Among them are 80 items produced by "Lian Hwa Foods Corporation - Keelung Plant," such as the Double Vegetable Tuna Rice Ball, which are not products currently on convenience store shelves.

The Department of Health stated that these 80 items are all ready-to-eat foods that have been consumed within their expiration dates or removed from shelves after their expiration dates.

The case of excessive carcinogen benzo(a)pyrene in Zhonglian oil has affected at least 232 products. The FDA announced the first batch of detailed lists yesterday evening, including many convenience store foods processed by Lian Hwa Foods, as well as sauces and seasoned powders from Wei Chuan, Guang Da Hsiang, and others.

The Keelung City Government Department of Health issued a statement indicating that the Ministry of Health and Welfare's FDA announced the list of 232 products yesterday, which includes those with an oil content of 20% or less, as well as expired products no longer on the market.

The Department of Health stated that after providing the relevant product list to the FDA for compilation, the product list announced by the FDA on the 7th includes 80 items produced by Lian Hwa Foods' Keelung plant, such as the Double Vegetable Tuna Rice Ball. These 80 items were produced using the problematic oil from April 13th to April 19th. They are all ready-to-eat foods that have been consumed within their expiration dates or removed from shelves after their expiration dates, and are not products currently on convenience store shelves.

The Department of Health suggested that the FDA consider adding columns for expiration dates or other remarks to the published product list. The Department of Health will continue to cooperate with the FDA to update information and conduct relevant investigations and public announcements to ensure food safety.
