Wang Wentao expressed hope that the Dutch side will maintain stability in the semiconductor supply chain and properly resolve enterprise disputes.
According to a press release from the Chinese Ministry of Commerce on the 8th, Chinese Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao and Dutch Minister of Trade Liesje Schreinemacher (Sjoerd Sjoerdsma) jointly presided over the 18th meeting of the China-Netherlands Economic and Trade Mixed Committee in Beijing on the 7th.
Wang Wentao stated that the Chinese Ministry of Commerce is willing to strengthen cooperation with the Dutch side in areas such as advanced manufacturing, technological innovation, green transformation, and modern services. "We hope the Dutch side will create a fair, just, and predictable environment for Chinese enterprises investing in the Netherlands, maintain stability in the semiconductor supply chain, and promote the proper resolution of relevant enterprise disputes." China welcomes Dutch enterprises to invest in China and share in China's large market.
According to Chinese sources, Schreinemacher expressed that the Dutch side is willing to further strengthen policy communication and coordination with China, deepen trade and investment cooperation, provide a stable and transparent business environment for Chinese enterprises investing in the Netherlands, and promote the stable development of EU-China and Netherlands-China relations.
After the meeting, Wang Wentao and Schreinemacher signed a "Memorandum of Understanding on the Establishment of the China-Netherlands Entrepreneur Committee" and jointly attended the first meeting of the China-Netherlands Entrepreneur Committee, with representatives from over 30 enterprises from both countries in attendance.
According to a Reuters report, Schreinemacher stated after the meeting that they are cooperating with China to resolve the dispute involving chip manufacturer Nexperia, describing the process as very smooth. Schreinemacher indicated that he had frank and forward-looking discussions with the Chinese side, and he believes both sides wish to move beyond a period of friction and problems and resume cooperation.
He stated that the Dutch and Chinese governments are actively cooperating to control the impact of the Nexperia dispute. He also pointed out that achieving a long-term solution still requires Nexperia and its Chinese subsidiary to reach an agreement themselves.
Schreinemacher was sanctioned by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2021. The sanctioned individuals and their family members were prohibited from entering mainland China and the Hong Kong and Macao regions, and were forbidden from interacting with Chinese entities. To date, China has not publicly announced the lifting of sanctions against Schreinemacher and others.
When asked about related issues recently, Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Mao Ning did not directly answer whether Schreinemacher's sanctions had been lifted, only stating that China "upholds an open and pragmatic spirit" in advancing dialogue and cooperation between the two sides.
