Taipei, July 8 (CNA) Taiwanese professional golfer Cheng Pei-yun stated today at the CTBC Holding Sports Empowerment Program that she has been resting for over a month due to a golfer's elbow injury. "However, I will still actively prepare for the Asian Games in Nagoya and hope to achieve good results."
At the previous Hangzhou Asian Games, professional players were allowed to compete for the first time. Taiwan sent 4 men and 3 women. Among them, Hung Chien-yao won the bronze medal in the men's individual event, while Cheng Pei-yun finished 17th in the individual event with a score of 289 over four days.
Cheng Pei-yun told CNA reporters at a sponsor event today that she was diagnosed with golfer's elbow in her right arm about two months ago. At that time, she gritted her teeth and finished the U.S. Women's Open. "I originally wanted to take leave for the upcoming LPGA Dow Championship, but because it was a team event and I had promised another player, I felt bad not to play."
Cheng Pei-yun said that her elbow had never had problems before, and she didn't know why this happened. "However, I have been back in Taiwan for a week and am actively undergoing treatment. There are still two months until the Asian Games, and I believe I can compete in good condition."
She also mentioned that her experience at the previous Hangzhou Asian Games was not very good, including the course arrangements, accommodation, and meals at the course, which made her "a bit difficult." Cheng Pei-yun laughed and said, "Competing in Japan this time, although putting on the greens will be a big challenge, I believe the arrangements for the competition details will definitely make the athletes more comfortable."
Cheng Pei-yun, 35, jokingly calls herself the "oldest rookie at the Asian Games." She mentioned, "I never participated in the Asian Games as an amateur, and I didn't have the opportunity after turning professional. I still look forward to wearing the national team uniform to compete, and I hope to win a medal this year." (Edited by Li Heng-shan) 0708
