TAIPEI, July 8 (CNA) -- The Taoyuan International Airport Corporation held an extraordinary board meeting today and approved the appointment of Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) Political Deputy Minister Chen Yen-po as acting chairman. Chen stated that the company's most important task is the third terminal project, and expressed hope that the project will be pushed forward with all efforts according to the target, completed and opened on schedule.

The Taoyuan Airport's third terminal was designed by the team of British architect Richard Rogers, a Pritzker Prize laureate. The main structure incorporates many Taiwanese elements, with its double-curved wave design echoing Taiwan's ocean and sea of clouds imagery. The 16 giant pillars are inspired by the banyan trees commonly found in Taiwan. The terminal is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.

The Taoyuan Airport Corporation issued a press release stating that an extraordinary board meeting was held this morning, during which the appointment of MOTC Political Deputy Minister Chen Yen-po as acting chairman of the airport company was approved.

Chen Yen-po said that Taoyuan Airport is the gateway to the nation and a transportation hub connecting Taiwan to the world. The company's most important task is the third terminal project, which represents a comprehensive upgrade of Taiwan's air transport capacity. He hopes that the project will be pushed forward with all efforts according to the target, completed on schedule, and opened smoothly.

Chen Yen-po pointed out that the third terminal project is not only a major mission for the airport company but also another important public construction project, following the Tamsui-Kavalan Bridge, that is highly anticipated by the public. It carries not only engineering progress but also symbolizes national competitiveness, industrial development, and international image. He exhorted employees to work together.

Chen Yen-po emphasized that international airport competition is no longer just about runways and terminals, but a comprehensive competition of service quality, operational efficiency, smart technology, and sustainable development. In the future, relevant work will continue to be promoted to make Taoyuan International Airport an important aviation hub in Asia, providing passengers with a safer, more convenient, and more friendly service experience.

Chen Yen-po holds a master's degree from the Graduate Institute of Transportation and Communication Management Sciences at National Cheng Kung University. He has served as Director-General of the Directorate General of Highways, Chief Secretary, Director-General of the National Freeway Bureau, Director-General of the Directorate General of Highways, Political Deputy Minister of the MOTC, and Acting Minister of the MOTC.
