The Directorate General of Highways, Ministry of Transportation and Communications, announced today that provincial highways such as Provincial Highway No. 9 (Beiyi Highway) under its jurisdiction are within the warning range. As for the Tamsui-Kueishan Bridge on Provincial Highway No. 61, speed limits will be reduced if the average wind speed reaches level 8, and it will be closed if it reaches level 10.
According to the Central Weather Administration website, the severe typhoon Bavi was located 1490 kilometers east-southeast of Eluanbi at 8 a.m. today, moving west then northwest-west at a speed of 21 kilometers per hour. The maximum wind speed near the center is 60 meters per second, with a 7-级 wind radius of 380 kilometers.
The Northern Region Highway Maintenance Engineering Office of the Directorate General of Highways issued a press release stating that the severe typhoon Bavi is expected to approach northern Taiwan on the 10th and 11th. Based on historical statistical data, routes such as Provincial Highway No. 2 Jia (Yangjin Highway), Provincial Highway No. 2 (Coastal Highway), Provincial Highway No. 7 (Beiyi Highway), Provincial Highway No. 9 (Beiyi Highway), and Provincial Highway No. 9 Jia (Xinwu Highway) under its jurisdiction, which have experienced damage in previous typhoons, are all within the warning range.
The Northern District Office stated that the Tamsui-Kueishan Bridge on Provincial Highway No. 61, which opened on May 12 this year, is located at the mouth of the Tamsui River. It is estimated that the average wind speed will reach level 8 at noon on July 10 and level 10 in the evening. In accordance with the Tamsui-Kueishan Bridge "Emergency Response Plan for Dangerous Warnings," speed limits will be reduced when the average wind speed reaches level 8, and the Tamsui-Kueishan Bridge will be closed when it reaches level 10 to ensure traffic safety. Road users planning to travel on this route are advised to pay close attention to the weather conditions.
In addition to advising road users to avoid entering mountainous areas as much as possible during the warning period, the Northern District Office will also conduct rolling reviews based on rainfall.
