(Central News Agency, reporter Wu Zhehao, Changhua, July 8) As the powerful Typhoon Bavi approaches Taiwan, the Changhua County Government announced today that it has completed preparations for flood control facilities and disaster relief equipment. The county is closely monitoring areas prone to flooding, potential landslide zones, and low-lying coastal areas, remaining ready to respond at any time.

The Central Weather Administration stated that Bavi remains a strong typhoon with a 380-kilometer radius, making it both powerful and large. Current forecasts indicate the highest probability of it passing by the northeastern coast of Taiwan, but interactions with topography could lead to it coming closer to the island.

In a press release today, the Changhua County Government detailed various typhoon preparedness measures. Changhua County Magistrate Wang Hui-mei stated that the county government has instructed all disaster prevention and relief units to complete their typhoon preparations, enhance the readiness of pumping equipment, flood control facilities, and disaster relief machinery. They are also closely monitoring areas prone to flooding, potential landslide zones, and low-lying coastal areas, ensuring readiness for any eventuality.

Wang Hui-mei added that typhoons not only bring heavy rainfall but also strong gusts of wind that can easily cause signs, roof tiles, potted plants, and other loose items to fall. Residents should take advantage of the time before the typhoon arrives to inspect and secure their home windows, roof tiles, awnings, advertising signs, as well as balcony potted plants and clothes racks, and other items susceptible to wind, to prevent injuries or property damage.
