(Central News Agency, reporter Huang Chao-wen, Taipei, July 8) Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR) experienced an abnormal power outage between Taoyuan and Hsinchu late on June 23, causing some trains to stop midway. THSR announced today that an investigation found a maintenance supervisor violated standard operating procedures and deliberately concealed the incident during the investigation, resulting in dismissal with three major demerits.

Late on June 23, THSR experienced a brief power anomaly on the Taoyuan to Hsinchu section, causing four trains to be delayed by approximately 5 minutes each. In addition to stopping midway, the trains' carriage lighting was also affected by the power abnormality.

THSR explained in a statement that the company has established employee codes of conduct that require adherence to core values such as "integrity" and "discipline." When performing duties, employees must uphold commitments to operational and system safety. This case was found to be a maintenance supervisor violating standard operating procedures, leading to train stoppages and delays, affecting passenger rights. Furthermore, the supervisor deliberately concealed the incident during the investigation, a serious violation of the principle of integrity and the employee code of conduct.

THSR reiterated its determination to maintain operational and passenger safety to the highest standards. The company expressed deep regret and sorrow that employees failed to uphold core values such as "integrity" and "discipline." After completing the investigation according to disciplinary procedures, the disciplinary outcome was announced: dismissal with three major demerits, as a warning to others.
