(Central News Agency, reporter Zhang Shuling, Beijing, July 9) Beijing has launched a Level II emergency response for flood control this afternoon, advocating for work-from-home arrangements. Miyun and 5 other suburban districts have issued red rainstorm warnings. Last July, Miyun District suffered a severe rainstorm and flood disaster, causing 32 deaths at a local elderly care center.

According to reports from Beijing Daily and other media, at 1:30 PM, Beijing initiated a Level II emergency response for flood control. A public guidance for the orange rainstorm warning was also released simultaneously, marking the city's first orange rainstorm warning signal since the start of the flood season this year. Heavy rain is expected in Beijing from 2 PM on July 10 to 8 AM on July 12.

Among these, Miyun, Huairou, Shunyi, Fangshan, and Pinggu districts have issued red rainstorm warnings.

Beijing has suspended on-site training for subject-based tutoring institutions, outdoor teaching, and other activities. Large-scale sporting events, organized outdoor sports activities, and sports training sessions have also been suspended. For enterprises and public institutions, flexible work arrangements such as working from home are encouraged, and all high-risk outdoor operations are to be stopped.

The areas in Beijing issuing red rainstorm warnings today are all in the surrounding mountainous regions. On July 28 last year, due to continuous heavy rainfall causing a severe flood, the elderly care center in Taishitun Town, Miyun District, was inundated, resulting in 32 fatalities. In June this year, the State Council executive meeting passed an investigation report on this incident, identifying issues such as inadequate flood prevention and response during the flood season, leading to the accountability of 17 public officials.
