(Central News Agency, reporter Huang Kuo-fang, Chiayi City, 9th) A man surnamed He from Chiayi County, who had deep-seated grievances with his cousin living next door, allegedly wielded a kitchen knife to hack his cousin's head yesterday, causing profuse bleeding. Police responded to the scene, made an arrest, and transferred him for investigation on charges of attempted murder. Due to his actions of cleaning the murder weapon and disabling surveillance cameras, the Chiayi District Prosecutor's Office applied to the Chiayi District Court for his detention, which was approved.
Police stated that Mr. He, a resident of Chiayi County, had been at odds with his cousin living next door for many years, and the two often argued over trivial matters. Yesterday morning, they had another dispute at their doorways. In anger, Mr. He went into his home, retrieved a kitchen knife, and suddenly swung it twice at his cousin's head, causing severe lacerations and profuse bleeding at the scene. Neighbors who witnessed the incident immediately called the police.
Police rushed to the scene, provided assistance to the injured party for emergency medical treatment, and arrested Mr. He, who was suspected of committing the crime. After questioning, he was transferred for legal proceedings last night on charges of attempted murder. The Chiayi District Prosecutor's Office, after further investigation, applied to the Chiayi District Court for his detention.
The Chiayi District Court stated that Mr. He confessed to the crime, and the suspicion of attempted murder is significant. Furthermore, before committing the crime, he disabled the recording function of the surveillance cameras, and after the crime, he cleaned the bloodstains from the kitchen knife, raising concerns of evidence tampering.
The Chiayi District Court stated that considering the possibility of evidence destruction and obstruction of subsequent judicial investigation if bail, release on recognizance, or residential restrictions were allowed, detention is necessary. Therefore, detention was ordered, and visitation and communication were not prohibited. (Editor: Long Baian) 1150709
