(Air Force One, Washington D.C., Aug. 8, 2024, via Reuters) U.S. President Donald Trump's attempt to restrict "birthright citizenship" via executive order has been rejected by the Supreme Court. Trump stated today that the Supreme Court's decision was "absurd" and that he would request a rehearing of the case.

According to Agence France-Presse, a request for a rehearing must be filed within 25 days of the ruling and is rarely granted.

Trump, en route back to Washington D.C. on Air Force One from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit in Ankara, Turkey, posted on his social media platform "Truth Social": "The Supreme Court's ruling is wrong. I will be immediately asking the U.S. Supreme Court for a rehearing."

Trump added, "If they do not change this absolutely absurd decision, this injustice will destroy our Country."
