(Central News Agency, Hsinchu City, July 9) The Second Precinct of the Hsinchu City Police Bureau carried out a special investigation operation yesterday, successfully cracking down on an electronic arcade suspected of operating illegal gambling. Sixteen employees and 50 customers were apprehended at the scene, along with evidence including cash and various gambling machines. The case is being investigated for gambling offenses.
The Hsinchu City Police Bureau announced in a press release today that the Second Precinct received intelligence and, after several months of meticulous surveillance and precise evidence collection, reported to the prosecutor of the Hsinchu District Prosecutor's Office for command and investigation. A search warrant was also obtained from the Hsinchu District Court.
The Second Precinct of the Hsinchu City Police Bureau stated that yesterday morning, police forces were consolidated and executed synchronized searches and arrests according to the task force structure. After approximately 2 hours, the search procedures were completed, resulting in the apprehension of 16 employees and 50 customers. Evidence seized included NT$1,048,280 in cash, 106 various gambling machines, computer hosts, membership cards, mobile phones, and a money counting machine.
The City Police Bureau stated that the person in charge, employees, and customers at the scene were all brought back to the precinct for interrogation according to the law. Following the prosecutor's instructions, all seized machines were sealed and entrusted for safekeeping. The entire case is being investigated for violations of the Criminal Code regarding gambling and other relevant regulations. Investigations are ongoing to trace the behind-the-scenes operators and fund flows.
The City Police Bureau stated that the summer vacation period is a key focus for the Youth Protection Project. They will continue to strengthen patrols and crackdowns on establishments such as electronic arcades, internet cafes, KTVs, and nightclubs, and will not tolerate operators using legal means to cover up illegal gambling, which endangers social order and the physical and mental health of young people.
