Zhubei City Office Strengthens Typhoon Preparedness, Stocks Sandbags and Water Pumps

(CNA, Hsinchu County, July 9) The Zhubei City Office in Hsinchu County announced today that in response to the potential threat of strong winds from an approaching typhoon, it has elevated the typhoon preparedness level for ongoing construction projects. Contractors have been instructed to reinforce the securing of fences, machinery, scaffolding, and any objects prone to being blown away. Personnel and equipment have also been pre-positioned for immediate disaster response and repairs.

The Zhubei City Office issued a press release today stating that the rainfall on June 26 caused flooding in Zhubei City. The city office has continued post-disaster recovery efforts, strengthening the dredging and inspection of side ditches and drainage systems within its jurisdiction. Enhanced cleaning of side ditches has also been carried out in coastal areas of the western district, Chongyi Village, Shangyi Village, and along the Fengshan River.

Zhubei Mayor Cheng Chao-fang stated that in anticipation of the strong winds potentially brought by Typhoon Bavi, the city office has raised the typhoon preparedness level for ongoing construction projects, requiring contractors to secure fences, machinery, scaffolding, and easily airborne items.

Regarding flood control supplies, he mentioned that the city office originally kept 300 sandbags in stock. In preparation for the June 26 flood and the upcoming typhoon, they have recently increased this to over 4,000 sandbags. Mobile water pumps have also been pre-positioned to cope with short-duration heavy rainfall and potential flooding.

The city office advises the public to avoid mountainous areas, coastlines, rivers, and low-lying areas during the typhoon. Fengqi Trail has been preemptively closed. Residents should check windows and doors, secure any items that could be blown away, clear drainage outlets, and stay informed about heavy rain, flooding, and the latest disaster prevention information.
