(CNA, Taipei, July 9) The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) held a groundbreaking ceremony today for its new office building. The new site, located at the intersection of Aiguo East Road and Hangzhou South Road in Taipei City, is expected to be completed and occupied by November 2031. MOEA Minister Kung Ming-hsin stated that the site covers approximately 1.9 hectares and will consist of three buildings. The awarded contract amount is NT$10.438 billion. Upon completion, it will integrate the MOEA headquarters, the Industrial Development Administration, the Commerce Development Administration, the Energy Administration, and the Small and Medium Enterprise Administration.

The MOEA held the groundbreaking ceremony for the "New Office Building Turnkey Project" today, presided over by Premier Cho Jung-tai, with MOEA Minister Kung Ming-hsin in attendance. Legislators, local representatives, heads of relevant agencies, and the engineering team were also invited to witness the event.

The MOEA stated that its current office buildings are old and spatially dispersed, no longer meeting the long-term office needs of its various units. In 2022, the Executive Yuan approved the "New Office Building Mid-to-Long-Term Project" and authorized the use of the Special Zone 3 base in Taipei's Huaguang Area as the new site for the MOEA.

During his speech, Kung Ming-hsin recalled his surprise when he first entered the MOEA offices as Vice Minister in 2017-2018, questioning, "Isn't the MOEA the face of the nation? Why does the building look like this?"

Kung Ming-hsin mentioned that renovating public buildings is a very difficult and complex undertaking. Fortunately, this piece of land became available later. Former MOEA Minister Wang Mei-hua also strongly advocated for it, making the new construction project possible.

Kung Ming-hsin pointed out that the new office building will comprise three structures, with heights of 23, 16, and 4 stories, respectively, and three basement levels, totaling over 110,000 square meters of floor space. Upon completion, the MOEA headquarters, Commerce Development Administration, Industrial Development Administration, Energy Administration, and Small and Medium Enterprise Administration will move in together, enhancing administrative integration efficiency and symbolizing the organizational integration of the MOEA.

During his speech, Premier Cho Jung-tai stated that the commencement of the MOEA's new office building construction, at a time of rapid national economic development, injects a strong boost into future economic growth. He expressed hope that the new building will provide more space for economic policy formulation, talent cultivation, and attracting foreign investment, accompanying domestic industries in continuously reaching new heights.

Speaking about the process that led to the new building, Cho Jung-tai noted that Kung Ming-hsin, from his tenure as Chairman of the National Development Council where he set long-term development plans, to his role as Secretary-General of the Executive Yuan coordinating various ministries, and now presiding over the groundbreaking ceremony as MOEA Minister, has "nurtured this new MOEA building like his own child."

Cho Jung-tai also urged MOEA employees and the turnkey team to treat the construction process as if caring for "their own child," allowing the building to grow into a smart, technologically advanced, and sustainable structure.

Cho Jung-tai stated that the new MOEA building will undoubtedly become the most advanced building in the country, integrating AI into public services while also combining with the surrounding historical and cultural development, allowing the area to achieve a harmonious coexistence of historical relics, modern technology, public sector efficiency, and residents' lives.
