(Central News Agency, reporter Zhang Qian, Hong Kong, July 9) A mainland Chinese student was arrested yesterday for allegedly submitting forged academic transcripts and documents to the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

According to comprehensive reports from local media, the arrested individual is 22 years old. He came to Hong Kong from the mainland four years ago to study engineering at PolyU. Due to poor academic performance, he was expelled in May last year, and his entry visa was also canceled by the Immigration Department. However, he has not left Hong Kong.

He returned to PolyU the day before yesterday and submitted a certificate and two academic transcripts, requesting the university to apply to the Immigration Department to reinstate his visa application. However, the university found the documents suspicious and reported the matter to the police.

Since mid-2012, there have been incidents of mainland students using fake academic qualifications at various universities in Hong Kong, and many individuals have since been convicted and sentenced by the courts. (Editor: Chen Kaiyu) 1150709
