(Central News Agency reporter Tsai Yu-ching, Kaohsiung, July 9) As Typhoon Bavi approaches, in response to the heavy rainfall it may bring, the Kaohsiung City Water Resources Bureau stated today that the city government has coordinated with the Sixth River Management Office to carry out dredging and emergency reinforcement and heightening of revetments along the Erren River, as well as pre-deploying mobile pumping stations to enhance the protective capacity of low-lying areas.
Kaohsiung Deputy Mayor Lin Chin-jung visited the Yuehshih Pumping Station in Tianliao District and the area around Jiafeng Road in Gangshan District this afternoon to inspect the pre-deployment of mobile pumping stations, drainage routes, and backup power supply equipment.
Lin Chin-jung requested that the city government's Water Resources Bureau continue to monitor the typhoon's dynamics and changes in rainfall and water levels, implement all flood prevention measures, and ensure that pumping facilities can be put into operation in a timely manner during heavy rainfall to reduce the risk of flooding. He also stated that the city government will maintain close contact with the central government and adjust flood prevention deployments and equipment dispatch based on actual rainfall conditions.
The Water Resources Bureau stated that considering the risk of power outages during the typhoon, large generators have been pre-positioned and are on standby to support multiple pumping stations on both the east and west sides under National Freeway 1 and around Tantih Road. If the Taiwan Power Company's power supply is interrupted, backup power will be immediately activated to maintain the continuous operation of the pumping units, ensuring uninterrupted drainage functions.
In addition, due to the heavy rainfall on June 26, the Yuehshih Road section in Tianliao District experienced flooding. The city government has coordinated with the Sixth River Management Office to carry out dredging and emergency reinforcement and heightening of revetments along the Erren River. The Water Resources Bureau has also completed dredging of the channels around Meilao Bridge and used sandbags to seal flood control gaps, strengthening the protective capacity of low-lying areas.
Furthermore, in response to the heavy rainfall that the typhoon may bring, the Water Resources Bureau stated that it has applied to the Sixth River Management Office for the support of three mobile pumping stations, which were pre-deployed by noon today and can be mobilized for pumping operations based on on-site water levels and rainfall conditions.
