(Central News Agency reporter Lu Kang-hsuan, Hsinchu City, July 9) Typhoon Bavi is approaching, and the Hsinchu City Government announced that the "Hsinchu City Disaster Response Center Level 2 Activation" was established at 3 PM today. Tests were conducted on pumps and barrier gates for underpasses, and construction sites were required to strengthen their fixtures to jointly prepare for the typhoon.
The Hsinchu City Government stated that the Central Weather Administration issued a sea typhoon warning for Bavi today, estimating that the storm's eyewall will approach land on Friday evening. The latest forecast indicates a very high probability that Hsinchu City will be within the storm's radius, potentially accompanied by strong gusts, heavy rain, or torrential downpours.
The city government stated that Mayor Kao Hung-an ordered the "Hsinchu City Disaster Response Center Level 2 Activation" at 3 PM today, with the Hsinchu City Fire Bureau's response team stationed there. It is expected to be upgraded to "Level 1 Activation" at 7 AM tomorrow, with relevant bureaus and departments stationed.
The city government stated that tests for underpass pumping units and barrier gates were completed today. Construction sites for public works and private projects within its jurisdiction were required to strengthen the fixtures of cranes, scaffolding, and fences. Large advertising banners also need to be reinforced or taken down before the typhoon.
Regarding areas prone to water accumulation and flooding, the city government pointed out that it has intensified the desilting of side ditches, cleared fallen leaves and debris from drain covers, and completed the cleaning of sediment from drainage ditches in all underpasses to ensure smooth drainage. Additionally, personnel have been dispatched to prioritize the pruning or reinforcement of trees with a risk of falling, reducing the risk of roadside trees collapsing due to strong winds and heavy rain.
The city government stated that all pumping stations in the city have completed trial operations, with contractors on standby 24 hours a day. Detention ponds have also been drained in advance to reserve space for heavy rainfall. Residents who need flood control materials such as sandbags and waterproof barriers can pick them up at their respective district offices with their identification.
Furthermore, Taiwan Power Company's Hsinchu District Office issued a press release stating that it has conducted preventive line inspections and typhoon-related pruning of trees, and has completed the inventory of disaster prevention equipment and materials for the entire area. Emergency repair personnel, engineering vehicles, and equipment have been deployed and are on standby to respond to power outages that may be caused by the typhoon at any time.
The Hsinchu District Office of Taiwan Power pointed out that in view of past typhoon incidents where tree branches and signs were blown down by strong winds, damaging power distribution equipment, or underground power distribution rooms in buildings were flooded, hindering emergency repairs, it urges the public to strengthen the fixing of signs and billboards, remove hanging objects, prune private trees, and implement flood prevention measures for basements in advance. If fallen or exposed power lines are found, do not pick them up or touch them; immediately report them to Taiwan Power for handling. (Editor: Huang Ming-hsi) 0709
