The Zhonglian Oils incident continues to unfold, with major companies including Costco, Louisa Coffee, and Wasabi Group taking preventive action after receiving official notifications. All have confirmed compliance with regulatory directives, and none of the listed non-compliant oil batches are currently in use at their stores or restaurants.
Costco stated today that all products related to oils manufactured by Zhonglian Oils between April and June 2023 have been proactively removed from shelves in accordance with government requirements and supplier notifications. The company will continue to cooperate with suppliers and regulatory authorities, closely monitoring developments to safeguard member rights and food safety.
The Louisa Group responded that on July 9, it received notice from health authorities to remove all soybean salad oil products produced between April and June by Fushou, Fumao, and Taishan, along with any derived items, regardless of whether they were from the affected batches. By the evening of July 9, the company had verified all inventory and issued store-level removal instructions. All products from these three suppliers were removed and sealed by noon on July 10, with no further use permitted.
Louisa emphasized that all current oil products and related items used in its stores come exclusively from certified, compliant suppliers.
Wasabi Group stated that immediately after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announcement on July 1, it initiated a comprehensive review across all locations. For certain outlets that had previously used the listed oil batches, usage was immediately halted, and a full preventive replacement was completed. Currently, none of the non-compliant oil batches are in use across any of its brand restaurants, and product supply remains normal.
