(Central News Reporter Yu Yao-ru, Vilnius, July 13th) The 'Right Guard Children's Choir' and 'Hope Children's Choir' from Taiwan held a choral concert in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, on the evening of the 11th. They showcased the rich cultural heritage of Taiwan to the local people through their pure voices and deepened the exchange and friendship between the peoples of Taiwan and Lithuania through music.
According to a press release from the Taiwan Representative Office in Lithuania, the two choirs recently participated in the 5th Budapest International Choral Festival, competing with 36 choirs from 20 countries. They won the highest honor, the Laurea Summa Cum Laude, and the Gold Diploma, among other awards, in multiple categories, performing exceptionally well.
The two choirs then embarked on a Baltic Sea tour, bringing Taiwanese children's choral art to countries such as Poland, Lithuania, and Latvia, and sharing the beauty of Taiwanese music and culture with the local people.
Representative Wang Xuehong, in her speech at the concert, stated that music is a common language that transcends borders and helps promote mutual understanding and exchange. She hoped that through this performance, the friendship between Taiwan and Lithuania could be further deepened.
The Representative Office pointed out that Taiwan, located at the Pacific hub, has long gathered diverse ethnic groups and cultures, nurturing an open and inclusive social atmosphere. The performance that night fully demonstrated the rich facets of Taiwanese culture.
The performance included songs in Mandarin, Taiwanese Hokkien, Hakka, and the languages of indigenous groups such as the Bunun and Paiwan. Through multiple languages and music, the performance conveyed Taiwan's historical memories, cultural heritage, and land emotions, allowing the Lithuanian audience to feel the warmth, diversity, and vitality of Taiwanese culture.
The concert was held at the historically significant Vilnius City Hall. The Representative Office stated that despite the limited seating capacity, over a hundred audience members attended, with some standing throughout the performance. The children's bright and pure harmonies deeply attracted the audience, and the clapping songs and multiple pieces also energized the atmosphere. The audience moved with the music and interacted enthusiastically. At the end of the event, the national anthem of the Republic of China was played, and all the listeners, regardless of nationality, stood up to listen and sing along, creating a moving scene.
The entire performance concluded successfully amidst enthusiastic applause and continuous encores. Wang Xuehong also presented certificates of appreciation, affirming the outstanding performance of the two teams and successfully completing a meaningful cultural diplomacy event.
