(Central News Agency reporter Lu Yan-Ci, Taipei, 13th) Taiwan's National Security Fund initiated its ninth market stabilization operation last year, concluding its market support mission on January 12 after a 279-day intervention. The fund began selling its stock holdings and today announced its full exit. All shares were successfully liquidated by May 6, generating a net profit of NT$9.932 billion on an initial investment of NT$12.25 billion, achieving a return rate of 81%.

The National Security Fund emphasized that during the share disposal period, the Taiwan stock market showed positive and stable growth, with no negative impact on market conditions.

In response to U.S. reciprocal tariffs, the National Security Fund entered the market on April 9, 2025, to support the Taiwan stock market, concluding its stabilization mission on January 12, 2026, with a total investment of NT$12.25 billion.

Following its second-quarter regular meeting today, the fund announced that it had fully divested all holdings between January 13, 2026, and May 6, 2026. Financial results include NT$9.86 billion in net profit from stock trading and NT$198 million in cash dividends received. After deducting NT$108 million in financing interest and NT$18 million in brokerage fees related to market entry and exit, the total net profit reached NT$9.932 billion, equivalent to an 81% return rate.

The fund stated that it gradually sold its shares after exiting, balancing market price stability and liquidity. The exit was successfully completed on May 6. During the exit period, the Taiwan stock index rose by 10,571.56 points, a 34.58% increase, with no adverse market effects observed.

Reflecting on the stabilization effort, a National Security Fund official noted that Taiwan's strong economic fundamentals prevented the market from becoming unresponsive, unlike previous interventions. However, there was a period of market panic, during which the fund intensified its support before conditions normalized.

The official added that the prolonged U.S.-Taiwan tariff negotiations and the subsequent U.S.-Iran conflict disrupted the fund's share disposal timeline.

Regarding future expansion of the fund's capital, the official stated that while legislators have proposed various suggestions, the final decision will respect the Legislative Yuan's deliberations.

The National Security Fund warned that due to volatile global economic conditions, Taiwan's stock market remains vulnerable to international political and economic shifts. It will continue to closely monitor developments and take timely measures as needed to stabilize the financial markets. (Edited by Pan Yi-Jing) 1150713
