Key News on U.S.-Iran Conflict

(Central News Agency reporter Liao Han-yuan, Washington, 13th) U.S. President Donald Trump made consecutive posts today, announcing he will deliver a national address and impose a 20% fee on the value of cargo carried by vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz as compensation for security operations. The U.S. military also announced it will resume the maritime blockade on Iran starting tomorrow, causing international oil prices to rise again.

President Trump posted today on his social media platform 'Truth Social,' announcing he will deliver a national address at 9:00 PM Eastern Time on the 16th (9:00 AM Taiwan time on the 17th).

In an earlier post, he stated the resumption of the 'Iranian Blockade' operation, banning Iranian vessels and their clients from entering or leaving, to ensure fair and open use of the Strait of Hormuz by all nations. Henceforth, the United States will act as the guardian of the Strait of Hormuz and will collect 20% of the maritime transport value as compensation to cover the costs required for ensuring security and fairness in this volatile region.

Trump's posts did not specify the purpose or main points of the upcoming national address, but analysts predict it is related to the evolving situation with Iran. His previous national address on April 1 came about a month after the U.S. and Israel launched military actions against Iran, during which he explained the progress of military operations and the urgency of addressing Iran's nuclear program.

The U.S. Central Command also issued a press release today, announcing the resumption of blockade operations against vessels entering and exiting Iranian ports and coastal waters, while continuing to support maritime navigation in areas not violating the blockade order.

The press release emphasized that this renewed operation follows the initial blockade conducted from April 13 to June 18, during which U.S. forces redirected the course of over 140 inspected vessels, stopped 9 non-compliant vessels, and allowed passage for more than 50 humanitarian aid ships.

The escalating tensions with Iran have once again impacted crude oil prices. As of the afternoon of the 13th Eastern Time, the ICE Brent Crude futures price rose approximately 10%, reaching $83 per barrel. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures rose about 9%, to around $77 per barrel. (Editor: Lu Ying-tzu) 1150714
