(CNA, Taipei, 13th) The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit will be held in Shenzhen in November. According to the official WeChat account of Guangdong Public Security, Guangdong police have launched a special crackdown and rectification campaign, strictly cracking down on crimes such as theft, robbery, and street brawls. The number of cases solved and individuals detained across the province has increased significantly by 15.7% and 10.8%, respectively.
According to the official WeChat account 'Guangdong Public Security' of the Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department, the department held a video conference for public security agencies across the province on the 13th. Liu Guozhou, Vice Governor and Director of the Provincial Public Security Department, attended the meeting and deployed further advancement of the 'Thunderbolt Escort' crackdown and rectification campaign, aiming to 'lay a solid foundation for securing a decisive victory in APEC conference security.'
The meeting emphasized the goal of ensuring 'peace and stability throughout the year and across all regions,' driving efforts through 'large-scale special operations and large-scale cluster actions,' and severely cracking down on all types of criminal activities to maximize deterrence and create a strong atmosphere, thereby minimizing incidents and police reports.
The meeting stated that crimes that significantly impact public safety—such as telecom fraud, theft and robbery, and street brawls—must be strictly punished to safeguard people's lives and property. All forms of online rumors must be severely cracked down on to ensure a clean and orderly cyberspace.
The meeting also emphasized the complete clearance of firearms and explosives, firmly maintaining the bottom line of 'no gunfire, no explosions.' All locations prone to harboring illegal activities must be thoroughly inspected to continuously purify the social security environment. Public security patrols must be strengthened, with a visible police presence to enhance visibility, responsiveness, and deterrence. Road traffic safety management must be reinforced, strictly cracking down on 'three overs and one fatigue'—especially illegal minivan modifications, overloading, and illegal operations—to prevent major traffic accidents.
Guangdong Public Security disclosed that since the launch of the operation, public security agencies across the province have strictly implemented measures for swift and severe打击, strict management and control, and source-level hazard elimination. Outstanding results have been achieved in combating crimes related to firearms and explosives, theft and robbery, and online rumors, leading to a significant 15.7% and 10.8% increase in the number of cases solved and individuals detained province-wide. Meanwhile, the number of initial criminal and public order police reports and criminal incidents has dropped sharply by 23.8% and 15.9%, respectively. (Editors: Lu Chia-jung / Chu Chien-ling) 1150713
