(Central News reporter Wu Ruixi, Taoyuan Airport, April 14) A passenger boarded the wrong plane at Taoyuan Airport today. Tigerair Taiwan has proactively reported the incident and launched an investigation. Airport staff said the passenger did not notice they were walking to the wrong gate, and ground staff negligence contributed to the incident, causing the flight to depart 22 minutes late.
A passenger posted on the social media platform Threads, saying, "The plane was about to take off when we realized someone had boarded the wrong plane."
Tigerair Taiwan stated that today's IT212 flight from Taoyuan to Kansai Airport experienced ground staff misjudging the signal alarm sound, leading to the passenger boarding the wrong plane. Subsequently, during the gate check procedure, it was discovered that the number of passengers did not match, and standard procedures such as unloading passengers, cleaning the cabin, and rechecking the number of passengers were immediately arranged.
Tigerair Taiwan said that they had proactively reported to the competent authority in the first instance, and at the same time, the company immediately launched an investigation into the incident and fully implemented improvement and preventive measures, and strengthened the gate check mechanism to ensure flight safety.
According to airport staff, it is believed that the passenger did not notice walking to the wrong gate and went to the gate B1R for the Tigerair IT212 flight. However, B1R is different from the general gate and has three gates that can operate simultaneously. The ground staff misjudged the signal alarm sound when swiping the ticket and let it pass. Moreover, because passengers need to be transported by a shuttle bus to the outer apron for boarding, the time difference in operations caused the staff to not discover the incident in time. The incident caused the flight departure time to be delayed from 3:15 PM to 3:37 PM, a total of 22 minutes late.
Passengers at the scene said that the ground staff discovered the discrepancy in the number of passengers boarding not long after, but the passengers had already boarded the shuttle bus to the outer apron for boarding. The ground staff also urgently contacted the crew on board for follow-up handling and took the passengers who had boarded the wrong plane back to the waiting area to urgently resolve the problem.
