(Central News Agency reporter Chang Chien-chung, Taipei, July 14) The United States and Iran have entered a new round of military conflict, causing major U.S. stock indices to close lower on the 13th. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index, closely correlated with Taiwan stocks, dropped 619.38 points, and Taiwan stock index futures in overnight trading fell 507 points. As a result, the Taiwan stock market followed suit today, dropping over 800 points in early trading and losing the 45,000-point level, hovering around 44,500.
TSMC reported June revenue of NT$44.268 billion and second-quarter revenue of NT$1.27 trillion, both record highs. However, TSMC's U.S. American Depositary Receipts (ADR) declined by $12.53, or 2.89%, despite the strong results. Consequently, TSMC's share price in Taiwan also fell, slipping to NT$2,410 in early trading—a decline of NT$30. Its market capitalization dropped to NT$62.49 trillion, dragging the broader market down by approximately 238 points.
Other major and high-priced stocks, including Hon Hai, ASE Holding, Yageo, and Insyde, also weakened, causing the electronics sector index to fall over 1%.(Edited by Yang Lan-hsuan) 1150714
