A 43-year-old American national surnamed Lin fatally attacked his brother-in-law, a music store manager surnamed Chi, in Hsinchu City today. Lin is a professor at the College of Electrical Engineering at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU), specializing in semiconductor research. NYCU stated it will cooperate with prosecutors and police in the investigation.
The Second Precinct of Hsinchu City Police Department reported receiving a report around 3 p.m. today regarding a suspected homicide at a music store on Sanmin Road. Upon arrival, officers found the male manager surnamed Chi lying on the ground, with Lin present at the scene holding a knife and confronting police.
Police stated that, in order to save Chi's life and control the dangerous situation, officers fired four shots to subdue Lin. Lin sustained gunshot wounds to his leg and was subsequently taken to the hospital under police escort, while Chi was pronounced dead.
Local sources told the Central News Agency that Lin is a professor at NYCU's College of Electrical Engineering, specializing in semiconductor engineering components. In response, NYCU issued a written statement expressing deep concern and regret over the tragic incident at the music school in Hsinchu City, extending condolences to the affected individuals and their families.
NYCU stated it is currently verifying the details with the police and will support legal investigations by prosecutors and police if any university-affiliated individual is involved, fully cooperating with the inquiry.
According to information, Lin holds American citizenship, while Chi ran the music store in Hsinchu City. Lin's wife is the elder sister of Chi's wife. The exact motive and full details of the incident remain under investigation by police. (Edited by Lin Shu-hui) 1150714
