Over the years, she has participated in and advanced hundreds of new drug research programs targeting cancer, cardiovascular diseases, kidney disorders, and other critical conditions, significantly advancing pharmaceutical development and human health.

Soochow University announced today that Dr. Pai is the fifth recipient of its Distinguished Alumna Award. After earning her master's degree in economics from Soochow, she pursued further studies in the United States, obtaining a master's in statistics from the University of Arkansas and a Ph.D. in biostatistics from the University of Missouri. Her journey from economics to statistics and biostatistics exemplifies a remarkable interdisciplinary spirit.

With four decades of experience in the biopharmaceutical field, Dr. Pai has long led clinical trial and biostatistics teams, driving forward hundreds of new drug research initiatives across diverse therapeutic areas including cancer, cardiovascular and kidney diseases, anemia, and psychiatric and sleep medicine. Her work has directly contributed to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approving 77 new drugs, making a substantial impact on global pharmaceutical advancement and human well-being.

Beyond her professional excellence, Dr. Pai has actively given back to society, earning numerous prestigious honors such as the 6th World Top Ten Outstanding Chinese Women Award, the International Leadership Foundation's Leadership Excellence Award, the Asian American Community Contribution Award, and the 2022 U.S. White House Lifetime Achievement Award.

Dr. James C. Chan, President of Soochow University, stated, "While achieving great success in her career, Dr. Pai has never forgotten her educational roots, consistently contributing to society and her alma mater through concrete actions. She is a source of pride for all Soochow people and a role model for future generations." He added, "By awarding her an honorary Doctor of Economics degree, Soochow University not only offers the highest recognition of her exceptional achievements but also hopes her life journey will inspire more Soochow alumni to pursue excellence."

Dr. Pai remarked, "No matter where I go around the world, I have always been proud to be a Soochow person," humorously adding, "Taiwan may do without blue, green, or white, but it cannot do without Soochow." She encouraged current students to uphold the belief of "effort, effort, and more effort," emphasizing that one should never limit oneself by academic background or starting point.
