(CNA reporter Wu Wen-jung, Kinmen, 14th) Xu Shucheng, a baseball player from Kinmen, was recently selected by the CTBC Brothers in the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) draft. Speaking at a baseball event in Kinmen today, he said, "I believe everyone has a chance. As long as you're willing to work hard and fight, you can achieve your dreams."
The 2026 CPBL Rookie Player Selection Draft was held recently. In the first round, the CTBC Brothers selected shortstop Xu Shucheng—marking the first time in 36 years, since Weng Feng-yu, that a player from Kinmen has been drafted into the CPBL.
Xu attended the opening ceremony of the Kinmen County Taewu Cup Little League and Junior League Championship today and spoke to reporters. When asked how to improve Kinmen's baseball environment, he said Kinmen's baseball scene is gradually improving, but the number of players remains insufficient. "As more people join and the culture grows stronger, competitiveness will naturally rise," he said.
Additionally, Hong Jia-en, a pitcher selected by the Wei Chuan Dragons, also attended the event. Having played all three levels of baseball in Kinmen, he emphasized that one shouldn't think success is impossible just because Kinmen lacks a smooth transition between youth, junior, and senior levels. "As long as you're determined, you can still make it," he said.
Hong noted that talented Kinmen players often move to Taiwan for high school, and some competitions are missed due to insufficient team sizes. "You need strong self-discipline and mindset, and never give up," he added. Regarding future performance, he said he aims to improve his physique and hopes to deliver results within two or three years. (Editor: Liang Jun-di) 1150714
