(Central News Agency reporter Yu Hsiao-han, Taipei, 15th) Meteorological expert Wu Derong stated today that over the next few days, tropical cloud clusters are fluctuating over the South China Sea and east of the Philippines, but development conditions remain unfavorable. However, disturbances in the South China Sea are increasing atmospheric instability over Taiwan, leading to strong convective weather in the afternoons for several consecutive days.
The Central Weather Administration continues to issue high temperature alerts. Affected by the subsidence of southwest winds, the weather remains hot. There is a risk of foehn winds in Taitung County. During the day today, Changhua County, Yunlin County, Tainan City, and Hualien County are under orange alerts, indicating a high probability of consecutive temperatures reaching 36°C or higher. Taipei City, New Taipei City, Chiayi County, and Taitung County are under yellow alerts, indicating a likelihood of temperatures reaching 36°C.
Wu Derong, adjunct associate professor in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at National Central University, wrote in the 'Leak the Heavens Classroom' column of the Foundation for Meteorological Applications and Promotion that from today through the 21st, low-level southerly winds and abundant moisture from southern seas will bring occasional localized brief rainfall to southern regions.
Wu pointed out that due to a relatively weak Pacific high-pressure system, the atmosphere remains unstable, leading to frequent development of strong convection in mountainous areas during afternoons, occasionally extending to some flatlands. People should remain vigilant against lightning, strong winds, and sudden heavy rainfall. Prior to rainfall, the weather remains hot.
According to Wu, the latest model simulations indicate that from the 21st to the 24th, low-level southerly winds will weaken and moisture from the south will decrease. The Pacific high-pressure system will remain weak, allowing afternoon convection to develop in mountainous areas, though only a small portion of adjacent flatlands will be affected. Daytime temperatures across regions will remain high. (Edited by Li Heng-shan) 1150715
