Central News Agency Report
(CNA reporter Tsai Meng-yu, Kaohsiung, July 15) The Qijin Ferry Terminal in Kaohsiung City has completed its renovation and officially reopened today. The refurbishment project, designed around the concept of the 'Gateway of Light,' comprehensively upgraded the waiting areas, passenger flow, and public facilities. Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai stated that the renovation is expected to attract more tourists to the area.
An inauguration ceremony was held today to mark the reopening of the Qijin Ferry Terminal. Mayor Chen emphasized that the terminal serves as a vital transportation hub for local residents' daily commutes, a key starting point for domestic and international tourists visiting Qijin, and a significant gateway representing Kaohsiung's identity as a harbor city.
Mayor Chen noted that the ferry terminal had been in operation for nearly 30 years and its facilities had become outdated. This renovation included structural reinforcement, as well as a complete redesign of the exterior and interior spaces. The city government launched a series of promotional campaigns for Qijin during this summer vacation, aiming to leverage the terminal's reopening to boost tourism.
According to the Kaohsiung Harbor Bureau Ferry Company, the renovation was guided by the 'Gateway of Light' concept, preserving the terminal's original architectural features while integrating imagery of the Kaohsiung Lighthouse, harbor views, and elements of a maritime city. The project comprehensively optimized waiting areas, passenger circulation, and public amenities to create a bright, comfortable, safe, and user-friendly environment.
Additionally, the project reorganized passenger flow and wayfinding signage to improve recognition and passage efficiency. Local特色 brands have been introduced to offer coffee, specialty goods, and tourism services, transforming the ferry terminal into a key stop where visitors can rest, relax, and experience Qijin's slow-living atmosphere. This is expected to further stimulate local tourism and commercial development.
Ms. Zhang Shu-juan, Chairman of the Kaohsiung Harbor Bureau Ferry Company, stated that the company will continue to enhance station facilities and operational quality, integrate harbor tourism resources, and build a more comprehensive maritime transportation network. The goal is to make ferry rides not just a means of transportation to and from Qijin, but an essential part of experiencing Kaohsiung's harbor charm and maritime city appeal.
