Shenzhen, China is actively promoting the commercial use of driverless vehicles, with dedicated nighttime delivery routes for various industries now reaching 331, according to reports.

As reported by Ta Kung Pao today, Shenzhen authorities began granting nighttime road access to functional driverless vehicles in March, starting with just two routes. This number has since surged to 331, with over 100 vehicles deployed cumulatively.

The authorities have granted nighttime road access to driverless vehicles in relevant industries to reserve valuable daytime road resources for public use. This move not only improves logistics efficiency but also helps alleviate urban traffic congestion.

Industries currently using driverless vehicles for nighttime deliveries include express delivery, warehouse restocking, and fresh produce distribution, forming a comprehensive nighttime delivery network.

Zhang Yi, manager of JD Logistics' Longgang District Pengda Grid Warehouse in Shenzhen, stated that by using driverless vehicles to distribute goods each night, the company can initiate last-mile delivery early in the morning, significantly improving daytime operational efficiency and reducing operating costs.
