According to a report by Central News Agency, the Yushan National Park Administration under the Ministry of the Interior's National Park Agency signed a 'Memorandum of Understanding on Ecological Conservation and Environmental Sustainability in Yushan National Park' today with the Chroma Cultural and Educational Foundation, a non-profit organization. The signing ceremony was witnessed by National Park Agency Director-General Wang Cheng-ji.
Director-General Wang stated that this collaboration will jointly advance ecological conservation, academic research, and environmental education outreach for the Alishan salamander in Taiwan's alpine national parks, aligning with national sustainable development policies and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By integrating corporate ESG resources with the National Park's conservation expertise, the partnership aims to support scientific research on the Alishan salamander and promote ecological conservation and science popularization activities to raise public awareness of biodiversity and climate change.
Wang noted that since its establishment in 2023 (Minguo Year 112), the National Park Agency has continuously promoted nature conservation through cross-sector collaboration, community co-prosperity, and corporate engagement. It has launched six major project themes: 'Species Conservation and Restoration,' 'Habitat Protection and Restoration,' 'Eco-Schools,' 'Facility Maintenance,' 'Image-based Marketing and Promotion,' and 'Other Collaborations,' successfully forming 106 partnership cases to date.
Yushan National Park is a key habitat for the Alishan salamander, and the species' survival directly reflects the health of high-mountain ecosystems. The Administration has commissioned research teams led by Professor Chu Yu-tien from the Department of Animal Science and Technology at National Taiwan University to conduct long-term population surveys, habitat monitoring, and conservation research, establishing a solid scientific foundation for the species' protection. In recent years, this effort has attracted participation from corporate foundations such as Taiwan Mobile Foundation and KGI Financial Holding Co., Ltd. This year, the collaboration with the Chroma Cultural and Educational Foundation will further deepen scientific research and environmental education initiatives. (Edited by Lin Shu-yuan)
