Wu Tien-yu: AI Development Will Temporarily Squeeze Resources, But Its Future Value Is Boundless

As the SEMICON Taiwan International Semiconductor Exhibition prepares to open on September 2, Wu Tien-yu, SEMI Global Board Chair and CEO of ASE Semiconductor, stated today that while artificial intelligence (AI) industry development may indeed cause resource allocation pressures in the short term, its long-term influence on cross-domain innovation and progress will be boundless.

During a pre-exhibition press conference hosted by SEMI International Semiconductor Industry Association, Wu delivered remarks and responded to media inquiries. He explained that AI applications transform experience and data into quantifiable knowledge, enabling the modeling of successful experiences and accelerating innovation.

Wu pointed out that the booming AI industry is causing temporary resource allocation pressures both internationally and domestically. However, looking ahead, the quantification, acceleration, and modular replication of AI applications will expand knowledge, extract successful models, and create new value—making AI’s impact on cross-domain innovation truly boundless.

He emphasized that the true long-term value of AI does not lie in repeating what humans already know, but in uncovering phenomena humans have never seen or experienced before. These discoveries represent entirely new value, far exceeding what humans can currently imagine.

Regarding Taiwan’s semiconductor and electronics ecosystem, Wu noted that AI development spans chip design, wafer fabrication, packaging, substrates, and electronics manufacturing. Taiwan’s ecosystem continues to focus on the paradigm shift brought by AI, expanding investments in the short term to meet market demand and driving innovation and efficiency improvements in the long term. He expressed hope that Taiwanese society and citizens deepen their understanding of what the semiconductor industry is doing and the contributions it is making globally.

Wu highlighted that Taiwan’s ecosystem is continuously strengthening regional deployment and resilience, integrating Taiwan’s supply chain with the global network. He expressed gratitude to global partners for their support and to Taiwan’s industrial chain partners for their steadfast commitment to advancing the global semiconductor industry.

Wu stated that Taiwan’s semiconductor industry stands at a critical vantage point at the onset of AI application development. As such, its responsibility is greater than ever. Seizing niche opportunities and this once-in-a-lifetime chance to help amplify AI’s long-term value worldwide is Taiwan’s vital mission and responsibility.
