Front Passes on the 18th, Northern, Central, and Eastern Taiwan Brace for Thunderstorms

Central News Agency (CNA) – Taipei, April 17 (CNA) – The Central Weather Administration announced today that a front will pass tomorrow, followed by northeasterly winds affecting the island until the 19th. Tomorrow is expected to be the day with the most moisture, with localized short-term showers and even thunderstorms in central, northern, and eastern Taiwan, continuing until tomorrow night. The rainfall is predicted to gradually ease by evening. Huang En-hung, a forecaster at the CWA, told CNA that on April 19th, localized brief showers are expected in Hualien, Taitung, and the mountainous areas of central and southern Taiwan, while other regions will transition from scattered showers to mostly cloudy to sunny. Weather conditions from April 20th to 22nd will be similar. Huang stated that on the 20th and 21st, the environment will be influenced by easterly winds, bringing localized brief showers to Hualien and Taitung, with other areas being mostly cloudy to sunny. On the 22nd, the environment will shift to southeasterly winds, bringing localized brief showers to Hualien, Taitung, and the Hengchun Peninsula, with potential scattered showers in southern Taiwan. Huang mentioned that on April 23rd and 24th, a front will pass and northeasterly winds will strengthen, with short-term showers or thunderstorms expected in central and northern Taiwan, and localized brief showers or thunderstorms in other regions. Overall, there will be opportunities for rain across all areas, but it is expected to be more continuous and significant in the central and northern parts. Regarding temperatures, Huang indicated that highs in northern Taiwan, Yilan, and Hualien will drop to 24-26 degrees Celsius tomorrow and on the 19th, with lows between 19-21 degrees. Highs in central and southern Taiwan and Taitung will be 28-31 degrees, with lows between 21-24 degrees. Huang pointed out that temperatures will rise starting from the 20th, with highs around 30 degrees from the 20th to the 22nd, and lows generally recovering to 21-23 degrees.
