Taiwan Power Company (Taipower) is facing three major transformations: climate change, geopolitical risks, and the explosive demand for electricity driven by AI. To cope with these challenges, Taipower will focus on two key areas. First, it will continue to diversify its power sources. While Taipower has eight thermal power plants, six are currently under construction, a historically significant scale. Renewable energy generation reached nearly 40 billion kWh by the end of last year, becoming a crucial power source. With potential regulatory amendments, nuclear power units may restart; Taipower is conducting safety checks and social communication, hoping to include nuclear energy as a diversified power option under safe conditions. Second, Taipower will adjust its power supply system and consumption structure. The AI industry has significantly increased electricity density, putting new pressure on current application and supply models. As electricity demand becomes highly concentrated, the scale of power consumption for single equipment far exceeds typical office or industrial use, indicating a need to upgrade the supply-demand coordination mechanism. Taipower emphasizes that future urban and infrastructure planning must incorporate electricity demand in the early design stages. For instance, reserving space for cable configurations in public projects like roads and bridges will greatly enhance power supply efficiency. Strengthening the "last mile" of the island-wide power grid during the construction of the Suhua Highway will also help improve overall power resilience. Taipower's sole and unchanging responsibility is to stably supply electricity and meet national and industrial demands, aiming to provide a stable growth environment for Taiwan's power sector with its over 30,000 employees.
